Arsenic and Old Lace

I wish that I had thought to take pictures of the work that I did for Arsenic. However, I did not know to do so. For this play I spent at least 30 hours researching how to apply theatre makeup, how to age someone, and looking into 1940’s hair and makeup styles. I learned how to do pin curls and victory rolls (something I put to good use not only during Arsenic, but during AM in the PM as well.). I was not very good at old age makeup, but I did improve. This was actually the very first time that I have worked with makeup. I had no previous experience in this and no previous knowledge of how to apply or what to use either. This was a great learning experience for me.

Just to get started

I may as well tell you a bit about myself. I am a 29yr old single mom. I am currently a theatre major and will be teaching, hopefully, after I graduate. While I would love to act professionally, I am not sure it is quite stable enough to start out. I am loving being involved in the theatre at school and am active in my church. My life is definitely not boring! I am taking a full load at school in combination with everything that you are involved in with having children.

This blog is here, not as a diary or a journal, but to keep track of everything that I am doing and have done in order to make it easier when I have to put together my portfolio in two years.

A brief resume, so I don’t forget! I acted in two plays outside in church in elementary school. I also did the requisite Christmas and Easter performances and the VBS summer performances each year. In middle school I spent my sixth grade year in the GNMS Players. I loved going to elementary schools to perform! In high school I did choir and loved singing. In college I spent a year in Witness Louisiana College. I helped strike nearly all of the shows the two years I was there and sold tickets in the ticket booth. At MC I was head of hair and makeup for Arsenic and Old Lace. I acted in the Best Christmas Pageant Ever and helped with makeup and hair for that, as well as choosing my own and my children’s costumes. I was student director for the AM in the P.M. as well as being head of hair, makeup, and costumes for this production. I was also cast in the show.
